Introduction:
Single Synthetic Crystal Quartz transmits well over the UV region and is thus the choice for low cost UV window material. Its birefringence, however, should not be overlooked. It is advisable to take into consideration birefringence for windows used in image processing techniques.
Very few materials match the useful transmission range and physical properties of optical quality cultured quartz. This material is reproducible, available and affordable.
The quartz windows must have a diameter substantially larger than the clear aperture of the window to allow contact with a standard size O-ring. According to other supplier, quartz crystals larger than approximately 4.5″ diameter are very difficult to obtain.
Our Z-oriented components are available up to 125mm in diameter.
